1. Is Mohegan Oil a full-service or discount oil dealer?
We are a full-service oil dealership. A discount oil dealer may offer a less expensive price per gallon for heating oil, but customers sacrifice the safety and security of around the clock assistance, emergency delivery and service, service protection plans, convenient budget plans, automatic delivery, and other convenient services.

At Mohegan Oil, we view our customers – those who have been with us for decades and our new customers as well -- as “family” versus “a number”. For example, a discount dealership will require the customer to be home when oil is delivered, with invoices payable immediately upon delivery. Not so with Mohegan Oil.

2. What kind of services does Mohegan Oil provide that a discount oil dealer does not?
Mohegan Oil does so much more than simply deliver home heating oil when you need it. We are also licensed and certified for major installations for boilers, warm air furnaces, hot water tanks, kerosene heaters, mobile home furnaces, and other equipment.

Our skilled heating and air conditioning team is also licensed and certified to repair all of the major systems listed above.

We also offer sensible and affordable service plans to keep your heating and air conditioning systems running smoothly, safely and efficiently.

3. I don’t know a lot about home heating oil versus other fuels. What are some quick facts?

a. Clean - A new oil burner will release near zero levels of smoke and combustion discharge. In fact, The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently issued a report stating that oil burners are now one of the cleanest combustion sources available. New oil furnaces operate as cleanly as gas or propane models, and are significantly cleaner than wood-burning stoves.

b. Cost Effective - Oil delivers more heat per unit of energy (measured in BTUs) than other fuels - a gallon of oil delivers 140,000 BTUs, while gas delivers only 100,000 BTUs per therm.

c. Comfortable – home heating oil produces air from the register is as much as 30 degrees warmer than other fuels. Your home heats up faster and needs less fuel. It also maintains your desired temperature better, and just feels more comfortable.

d. Safety – Home heating oil is nonexplosive and will not burn in a liquid state. Oil does not carry a significant risk of carbon monoxide poisoning usually associated with gas.

e. Environmentally friendly - Heating oil is nontoxic, contains no carcinogens and is biodegradable.

f. Peace Of Mind
- Oil heat enables you to have a supply of fuel oil stored safely on your property. You don't have to worry about the weather, because the oil in your tank is yours to use.

4. I am worried about being able to afford the cost of heating oil, what can I do to avoid big heating oil bills?
Mohegan Oil offers budget plans that spread out the estimated cost of heating oil over a 12-month period, thereby avoiding larger oil bills in the winter months. These budget plans can be reviewed periodically to ensure that estimates are making sense for the consumer.

5. I don’t want to run out of oil, do you have an automatic delivery service?
Yes! Mohegan Oil utilizes a computer-generated automatic delivery program that generates an order for oil delivery based on past usage estimates. Our customers can relax, knowing that they will never be “stranded” without home heating oil.

6. What are some basic conservation tips?
Conservation is easy with home heating oil products. First and foremost, a well-tuned, well-maintained system uses less oil. Also, turn down your thermostat. Each 1 degree lower equals approximately a 3% annual savings, and an additional 1% if you lower it again overnight. Consider an automatic timer on your thermostat. A thermostat run by a clock-timer or computer can save energy by automatically adjusting heating. Reduce the setting whenever everyone is asleep or away from the home.

7. What are some basic safety tips?

Boilers
Your boiler should have a good and clean air supply. Appliances like clothes dryers create dust and should not be kept in the same area as the boiler. If they are in the same vicinity, consider buying an air purifier to clear the air of lint. This will keep your system from having electrical and ignition problems. Make sure not to crowd the area around your heating system with boxes and old clothes. And by all means keep any flammable or toxic substances far away. Remember that inside your boiler is a controlled but very hot fire. You don't want to deprive it of oxygen, or create a fire hazard.

Oil Tanks
If your tank is above ground or buried, make sure it is safe from harm. We've heard horror stories about tanks in garages rupturing when they got dinged by the family car. And if your tank is buried make sure you know where it is before you do any serious construction around the house. Spilling hundreds of gallons of oil in the ground is unbelievably messy and expensive to clean up.

Don't Hit the Reset Button More Than Once!
If your boiler is not working, you should try to push the reset button. Once! Never push it more than once or else you may flood your system with oil, which can cause a dangerous condition in your boiler.

Make Sure Your Chimney Is In Good Condition
The chimney is an important part of your heating system, but it's a part your oil company isn't responsible for. Make sure your chimney is always in good condition and free of obstructions. Have it checked at least once every couple of years. If it's in bad shape, consider investing in a new lining.

Call Your Oil Company – Don’t try to fix things yourself
If you think something is wrong with your system, let your oil company know. They'll make sure the system is operating safely, and if it isn't they'll take proper steps to make sure it is.
